Search Engine Optimisation
Google currently commands 73% of the marketplace in regard to all Internet searches (www.hitwise.com Search Engines by Volume - May 2009), with Yahoo a long way behind at 15%. As these two organisations command nearly 9/10 searches on the Internet today, the question is - "What can you do to maximise your SERP (Search Engine Results Page)?"
Google Adwords
Well...Although not really SEO but your Search ranking can be increased to the front page by paying money to Google!
Google AdWords (http://adwords.google.com) is a pay per click advertising model in which advertisers pay only when their advert is clicked. With search engines such as Google, advertisers typically bid on keyword phrases relevant to their target market. If there is competition for popular keywords then the cost per click can be high. It is however an instant way of increasing your rankings and putting your website to the front page of Google.
As very few of us have an unlimited marketing budget, there must be another solution and there is, but it will not be anywhere near as instant as a PPC solution such as Adwords and does require work on your behalf.
SEO SCAMS
Before I go any further - a word of caution. If any company is guaranteeing that they can dramatically, and quickly increase your search ranking, run, dont walk! The fact is no SEO company can guarantee you SEO results. Dont believe me? Consider this quote from Google employee - Matt Curtis:
Summary
So, what should you do? Well, how about focus on the actual content? Content is king, and above all else will make people link to you. Get busy with your sites content, keep it relevant, keep it updated and watch your links grow. Google does like usability, so use unique title and description tags for every top and second level page, to help avoid slipping into Googles supplemental results.
Also dont look a gift horse in the mouth - Google Webmaster Tools including Google Analytics are free, and very useful to see that your site is well indexed, and where your links are coming from.
Anyway, if you have got this far and aren't totally bored, heres the good news - As part of using us to develop your website we will set everything up for you SEO wise, including submitting your site to Google, and implementing Google Webmaster Tools and Analytics, all for free!
Happy SEO optimising!
